It finds fertile ground, starts to grow, and then the sapling struggles for decades to develop into a magnificent, dignified giant. Each year adds a new ring to its trunk, and every season presents new challenges to its bark. Slowly but surely, it stretches towards the sky, spreading its branches to embrace sunlight and provide fresh air for its surroundings. Its roots penetrate deep into the earth, stabilizing the soil, whi-le its canopy offers home and refuge to countless beings. Decades pass before a tree reaches its full glory, providing shade, oxygen, and inspiration to generations. This process perfectly illustrates the long-term sustainable development we all ne-ed for the future of our planet. And this is exactly the mindset that permeates ATE-NOR's forward-looking ESG strategy.
Acting for the Future
This initiative is not just about our future; it is also about our present. It is about what we can do today to ensure that there is something to fight for tomorrow. The "Acting for the Future" program is more than just a corporate strategy. It is ATE-NOR's declaration of love for the Earth, for life, and for everything we wish to leave as a legacy for our children. This is reinforced by the words of Norbert Schőmer (Country Director):
“The tree planting program is one of our ways to give back to the Earth that gives us shelter. These trees will not only provide pleasant shade and produce the oxygen needed for survival—they will be our living memories, testaments to our commitment to a greener future.”
10,110 Newly Planted Trees
Each sapling we set out is a promise for the future. ATENOR can proudly say that since 2020, every year, it has planted a number of native trees across Europe cor-responding to the year, including in our beloved homeland. This is not just a number; it represents 10,110 new lives, 10,110 new hopes for Hungary over the past five years. What was the goal? Máté Galambos (Leasing Manager) answers:
“Why did we do all this? Because we believe and know that responsible, susta-inable urban development is not just about concrete, steel, and glass. True deve-lopment occurs when we live in harmony with the thoughtfully integrated built environment in nature, when we are able to respect the environment in which we live and work.”
A Forest of Trees in 5 Years
This year, the ATENOR community continued its mission at Julianna Major, on the outskirts of Budapest. As part of the program's conclusion, a memorial mountain maple was planted, along with many sessile oaks.
Achievements of Recent Years:
2020/21 - They began the noble tradition in the Budakeszi Forest, District XII of Bu-dapest.
2021/22 - Continued their mission in Makkosmária, District XII of Budapest.
2022/23 - Planted native saplings in Kamaraerdő, District XI of Budapest.
2023/24 - Planted sessile oaks at Julianna Major, on the outskirts of Budapest.
All this could not have been achieved without the expertise and dedicated work of Pilisi Parkerdő Zrt., who not only prepared the planting area but also ensured that each tree receives the best chance to grow and thrive.
“We have observed that in recent decades, the challenges regarding the preserva-tion of forests have increased due to climate change and rising human pressures. At the same time, more and more corporate actors and local governments feel compelled to support our work. With Atenor’s exemplary support, we have been able to enhance our natural values year after year, increase biodiversity, and make urban forests more resilient against the negative impacts of climate change. This is especially important here in the capital, where forests contribute significantly to maintaining and improving the quality of life for nearly two million city residents,” stated István Rittling, forestry director at Pilisi Parkerdő Zrt. Budapest Forestry.
